Experience is, indeed, one of the best teachers. Consider just one scenario: A person sitting at a desk or
workstation is suddenly confronted with darkness as the power goes out during the "quake". However, in their minds,
that's about all to expect before starting to evacuate when the "shaking" has stopped.
Hmmm. Maybe. Or maybe not.
Consider that instead of a smooth exiting experience, the person begins to encounter route blockages, glass breaking
under the feet, electrical wires down, and other hazards.....possibly while still in the dark!
There is something about such experiences that more effectively teach safety principles than a dry manual ever can.
And after the light's come on, it's also usually a BIG heads-up for everyone, from executives down the line, to begin to picture
what their site might actually look like post-disaster and what they would be likely to be actually dealing with.
We will bring in a team to "dress" your site, as in this example and in other ways, for a disaster drill. We bring
in props of various sorts, and spend several hours typically prepping the site with the kinds of damages reasonable for your
location and risk assessments. We can even help you arrange some simulated injuries. Most of what we do is very
simple and low-cost by way of materials and techniques, but is nevertheless highly effective in teaching fundamental principles,
and motivating people to take things seriously.
