STAR Team members are citizens who value:

Service, Training, Awareness, and Response ...

... that are essential to effective personal and community preparedness for all types of disaster.  STAR Team members invest their time, talents and efforts into learning about the many factors involved in creating safer lives for themselves, and others in their local community.  They participate interactively in learning new skills, including how to reduce earthquake and fire hazards in their homes and workplaces, how best to stay safe as an emergency is unfolding, and then to respond to a crisis by working as a team to stabilize a situation, conduct simple triage, render first aid, extinguish small fires, and employ light citizen search and rescue techniques as needed.

STAR Team training consists of a minimum of 24 hours of instruction, and up to 30 hours of instruction, normally sponsored by a local government, Chamber of Commerce or corporation.  Call for current quotations, but first read the following --- just one of many enthusiastic participant comments:

Client Comment:

"Having been raised by a parent with unbelievable courage and a nack for encouraging "experience", my philosophy has been to take life on, live it without fear or regret.  I always had felt "prepared" to deal with whatever came my way, as it came my way.  I took on the attitude of "if it" happens, I will face it and accept the outcome.  So far, so good.

And then, in the course of adding to my life experiences I became involved in a "disaster training drill", [and a STAR Team training course] taught by April Kelcy of Earthquake Solutions.

It quite literally changed my life.

I was quick to recognize all that I was unprepared for and the consequences of that ill-preparedness in the event of a disaster.  Ms. Kelcy did not instill fear, or speak of
impending doom.  Rather she presented facts and then gave me the knowledge, skills, tools and confidence to SURVIVE a disaster, and more importantly, to help others survive.  The lessons learned in this course have been shared with my young sons, my friends, and my associates in the workplace and from that comes comfort in that they too can survive.

I no longer chance survival.  I have taken control of my survival and have empowered others to do the same."  I continue to "take on" life and I do it without fear.  The difference is, I have ensured the part of no regrets, with the confidence that I will be prepared to do all I can do for myself and others when the time calls for it."
