This next link actually falls into several categories.  In addition to organizing & storing home inventory info with this company, digital archiving can also be used not only to protect and store personal memorabilia such as family photos, old family films etc, but also critical business continuty data and legally-required business files that can be lost during disasters.  They also are able to do some types of restoration.  Check out www.LifePreserver.com for more information.

If you want to help with a home inventory from someone who's literally been through a fire, contact Total Logistics Solutions and inquire about Cover Your Assets at www.ITSTIME2CYA.com.  They are based in Southern California, but have national reach and capabilities.

Disaster Relief Agencies:

We take a chance and reveal one of our own biases here.  There are so many good organizations, and we support many of them.  Based on our experience regarding the consistency and effectiveness of response to many differing types of locations and disasters, our own bias and most favorite is the Salvation Army.  Here is the link:

Another one that is often overlooked serves the needs of the heroes that no crisis can be managed without.  The brave people in the fire service not only often risk life and limb and serve under extreme hardship, but often do so when they don't even know their own families are safe.  This organization helps to meet needs within the fire service families:

http://www.firefighterministries.org

Active locally in the Southern California area, the following organization is credited with doing more for disaster victims, and helping them during a longer transition time, well beyond what one nationally recognized disaster relief agency was willing or able to do.  This has been the case locally for more than one disaster incident.  It is the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, with US headquarters in San Dimas, CA.  http://www.us.tzuchi.org.

Another faith-based disaster relief agency that is well organized operates through the Southern Baptist Convention.  In the Southern California area, they have chainsaw teams, chaplaincies, child care (including mobile units), clean-up and mud-out, communications, feeding teams, shower trailers and more.  See their page at http://www.csbc.com/disasterrelief for more information.

Prepare to Volunteer:
Children's Disaster Services prepares volunteers to serve and help children heal in the aftermath of major disasters.  In some sections of the country, such as the LA region, Rapid Response Teams also assist in ARC shelters after major local incidents, such as apartment fires.  More information can be found at:

Another enterprising student named "Elaina" found and shared an interesting master site with links to all kinds of disaster information by type.  Thanks to teacher Ms. Mercer for letting me know how helpful our page is as a resource, and for encouraging Elaina and other students to learn about natural disasters.  The link can be found at:
