Many disasters create hazards in the aftermath such as broken glass,
floor-to-ceiling debris, and particulate matter in the air that can damage lungs, both inside and outside of damaged
structures. Damage to lungs and eyes is especially to be avoided.
Please start here with the basic three items everyone should have for basic body protection,
often referred to as Personal Protective Equipment or PPE. However, more items are available, and will be coming here
soon. Please visit us again in the near future to see additional selections.

Leather-palmed gloves:
Many schools and businesses foolishly acquire beaded cotton gloves, which do not stand up to
broken glass or heavy debris.
Leather-palmed gloves should be the mininum standard for virtually all typical disasters that
produce debris. The goal is to prevent even minor injuries to the hands. Especially in disaster conditions,
where sanitation may be difficult, even minor cuts and scrapes can become infected. Although it might be fairly easy
to treat and control a minor wound in a day-to-day incident, there is the potential during disasters for some infections
on extremities to actually lead to blood poisoning or even possibly result in the need for amputation.
Leather-palmed gloves provide reasonable utility and protection against injury to hands in many
situations. Safety cuffs are standard on the ones we provide.

Vented goggles:
Major windstorms, fires and other emergencies can send dangerous particulate matter flying through
the air, and have the potential to cause serious injury to unprotected eyes.
There are many standards for eye protection depending on the type of potential injury to the
eyes. For industrial and occupational safety uses, a plain vented goggle is not always enough. However, a
plain vented pair of goggles should be available for general purpose use after disasters for as many people as possible.
This basic goggle is lightweight and comfortable, and will fit over most eyeglasses.

| Vital Cooling - OSHA Approved! |
Blu Bandoo Neckbandoo
Keeping cool is not just a matter of comfort.
Disaster response frequently involves exertion and simulataneous conditions
of having to deal with unusual heat, which can stress the body's cooling mechanisms. This can lead through a path of
heat stress ultimately all the way to heat stroke, and even death, if the situation is not monitored and managed
well. Also, the risks are higher to those who have not been conditioned to heat, those who have certain medical vulnerabilities,
and those who have suffered prior incidents of heat stress.
Even in day to day activities or leisure, keeping cool can increase comfort
and may help to diminish or delay the development of symptoms of heat stress.
The Blu Bandoo Neckbandoo can actually be used not only on the neck but
also can be tied around the head. The non-toxic polymer crystals inside turn to a cooling gel when soaked in water for
just five minutes. The band remains hydrated and cool for DAYS, without drying out, and no refrigeration is needed.
Wear one on your next hike!
This product is OSHA approved for heat stress and heat stroke prevention.
Retail price: $5.50 each
Usually available in black, white, navy, khaki or assorted prints.
However, your choice of color cannot always be guaranteed.

N95 Particulate Masks:
The CDC lists breathing of dust and silica at disaster sites as a specific hazard with the
potential to cause both short and long-term lung injuries. As part of their recommendations for addressing
this hazard they state "An N-95 or greater respiratory protection is acceptable for most activities, including silica and
portland cement dust". In other words, an N95 is the minimum recommended protection. (It should be noted,
however, that an N95 will not effectively handle asbestos exposure.)
Unfortunately, many schools and businesses purchase simple "dust" or "nuisance" masks.
Although these are less expensive, they will neither provide protection for the lungs in the aftermath of a disaster, nor
will they be likely to successfully relieve organizations of liabilities to protect their population. Therefore, purchasing
inadequate "dust" masks consumes budget dollars without providing any realistic benefit at all.
The superior N95 masks are one of the most inexpensive ways to provide a great deal of protection
for your lungs. The "N95" standard means they meet testing standards that remove 95% of solid or water-borne particulate
matter that is larger than 0.7 microns. To give you a point of comparison, weaponized anthrax particles are considered
quite small and fine, but the smallest known of these range from 1.0 to 5.0 microns. Therefore, the N95's
0.7 micron size standard screens out typical disaster debris contaminants to a very effective level.
You should plan on multiple N95 masks for each person. We keep it affordable for you by
offering prices that are typically below those available from most building and hardware centers.
Retail price: $1.50 each or $28.00 for a box of 20.
Bulk pricing is available in quantities of 100 or more.

| LOUD sound is crucial to deterring crime & locating the lost |
Lifesaver Safety Whistle:
Ordinary economy whistles usually are dependent on a cork ball to bounce around in the chamber when you
blow on the whistle. The problem is, the cork deterioriates with time, heat, moisture and other storage conditions,
and then when you need it, you may find you don't have a working whistle at all. Ordinary economy whistles are often
of a type of plastic that shatters easily, and do not necessarily produce a very loud whistle that can be heard over a large
area.
Not the case with this special lifesaving whistle, which has great durability and a sound range of
118 decibals. That sound level exceeds the requirements of the US Coast Guard. Also, this has a key ring
attachment as opposed to a lanyard. You should avoid wearing anything on a neck lanyard during emergencies for safety
reasons. Attach this one to your key ring, and never be without a way to signal for help.
