We are a manufacturer's representative for ZOLL Medical's AED+Plus
automated external defibrillator, which is the premier AED on the market.
AED's are a critical link in the chain of survival, and can now be used
effectively and safely by ordinary citizens who are not medical professionals. FDA-approved AEDs will not shock someone
who doesn't need a shock.
Most victims of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) are experiencing a quivering heart muscle.
Unfortunately, CPR alone will not address that condition. Only an AED can deliver the required shock intended to
restore the victim's normal heart rythms.
Response time is crucial to survival from sudden cardiac arrest, and to minimize neurological
damage in those who do survive. In most areas, it is not possible for paramedics or other professional
rescuers to arrive with their own AEDs until it's too late. That's why it is so important for ordinary citizens to have
AED programs readily available in all public places, businesses and schools.
Both the federal government and our local state of California have enacted requirements to place
AED's throughout their government buildings and facilities. California's urgency legislation of January, 2004 indicates
the possibility of survival rates of up to 74% for victims of sudden cardiac arrest when an AED is accessible and used promptly.
AEDs offer a tremendous survival rate advantage as compared with rates for CPR alone. With CPR alone, the survival rates are
generally no more than 5%.
Based on recent cases, and at the present time, it appears that NOT
having an AED program on site, may be likely to expose organizations to large liability verdicts or settlements when
an incident has occurred. This is in part because the benefits of an AED program are so clear that there is a
growing expectation that AEDs should be as commonly available as fire extinguishers. Lay
rescuers are protected in California and many other states by Good Samaritan laws.
In Murrieta, California during 2005, a 14-year old collapsed with sudden cardiac arrest.
The school nurse performed CPR but it took 23 minutes to get the boy's heart beating again. He lingered in a coma for
a month before he died. Doctors told the teen's parents he may have lived if he had received the shock from an
AED at the scene. Now the District is looking at 13 defibrillators at middle and high school campuses. In
another instance in CA, a church's beloved pastor collapsed and died of SCA at the pulpit on a Sunday, shortly after
the church rejected the purchase of AEDs. Stories like this exist everywhere, and the human cost is immeasurable.
However, there's also the business question, and simply put, all of the numbers are against you, and your potential liabilities
are likely only to grow, if you resist or refuse to implement an AED program.
If you are planning to purchase an AED, the most important thing you need to do is to become
aware of the differences between the models offered by various manufacturer's. While at first glance one may
assume all are similar, this is simply not true. There are critical differences in capabilities and operational aids
that you will want to know about.
The ZOLL Medical AED Plus is the only full-rescue AED on the market, and uses the most advanced
wave form technology of any AED on the market. While other AEDs often have a single shock level, the ZOLL AED Plus
offers three separate shock levels at both the adult and pediatric levels, thus delivering a more precise response to a victim's
actual condition. The ZOLL AED Plus also supports every link in the chain of survival, and provides the lay rescuer
with information and technology-supported coaching that simply no other model offers. It has a one-piece electrode pad
design that is quick and efficient for rescuers, and which has built-in technology that aids in the delivery of CPR, when
CPR is needed.
The AED Plus has the best ingress protection on the market. In addition to the official
ratings in this regard, in one actual incident an AED Plus was totally submerged in a boat for over four hours, after the
boat was impacted by a hurricane. Extensive examination and testing showed it to still be completely operational.
For a short demonstration and quotation information, please contact us to schedule an appointment
at your site or ours. You'll be impressed by the potential of this technology to save many lives.
CPR/AED training is also available at modest cost, as is assistance with writing up compliant
AED policies and procedures.

FDA Sends Warning Letter to Cardiac Science! This is a clear lesson in why buying a top-quality Zoll
AED Plus from us is a better investment than taking chances with other manufacturers. You can read the FDA warning

Do you have a pacemaker or defibrillator implant? Important Notice
of Consumer RECALLS! It certainly is NOT anything to do with
us. However, since it is a life safety issue, we would like to
inform readers that on January 21, 2006 Guidant Corporation issues a new recall of
numerous pacemaker models. At this time over 300,000 electronic heart devices,
under the brand names Guidant OR Medtronic, have been recalled. If
you have a heart device under either of these brand names, please follow-up immediately with your health care provider(s).
For example, defective Medtronic Sprint Fidelis leads been linked to five patient deaths, and a class action suit is
pending. (Patient ID card will have one of the following four sets of numbers: 6930, 6931, 6948, 6949.)
It also appears, based
on print ads, that a class action suit may be being contemplated by the law offices of Robinson, Calcagnie &
Robinson of Newport Beach, CA. The latter firm has published a toll free contact number of 800-983-5291. There
is also a similar ad by James Rolshouse & Associates at 1-800-951-8093.
And in another situation involving implanted defibrillators (not
AEDs), the Associated Press announced in October, 2007, that hundreds of injuries have been reported involving Medtronic's
Sprint Fidelis defibrillation wires, which may have played in a role in five patient deaths due to damaged or broken
wires. The AP article said the FDA had also received 599 reports of malfunctions and injuries as of January 10, 2007,
and another 1,030 reports through October 16. Medtronic pulled the devices off the market on October 15, 2007. According
to the AP article, if these wires are fractured, they can leave the implanted defibrillator unable to send a lifesaving shock,
or prompt it to deliver painful unnecessary shocks.
Again, Earthquake Solutions has NO
business relationships of any kind with either Guidant or Medtronic (nor with any of the mentioned law firms).
