Search and Rescue Basics for schools, care facilities and businesses

You have inherent moral and legal responsibilities to care for your population, and chances are you will need to begin these activities on your own if victims are to have a decent chance of survival.  But this is not child's play, and safety is of upmost concern.  Effiectiveness is essential.

In addition to classroom teaching, this course requires selected participants to don proper safety equipment, and conduct a hands-on rescue of a buried "victim" in a dark and debris-ridden simulation.  The victim will not only be located, but also triaged, and "packaged" as appropriate.  Participants who do not gear up will observe the simulation, and all participants will participate in the debriefing.  This is a three-hour course.

Selected Participant Evaluation Form Comments:
  • "Outstanding content!  Hands-on, well worth the time."
  • "Strong and useful."
  • "Very interesting and well appreciated.  I learned more than I knew and changed thoughts on a few things.  Great!  Covered a lot in a short amount of time."
  • "Great!  I learned a great deal about SAR guidelines and tactics."
  • "I'm glad I had this class.  Teachers are put in the position of being emergency workers, but there has been little training available that is geared toward schools."
